Dar-ul-uloom Yaqubiya (secondary education system)
Khanqahs have traditionally placed paramount importance to both religious and secular education. Wherever there has been spiritual thirst, Sufis have instilled this into the souls of individuals, with the help of the Almighty. Khanqahs have also helped enormously in the teaching of secular education.
Pothowar has been the spiritual centre of Baghar Shareef since its inception 175 years ago. The first spiritual leader of this khanqha was Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Hashim Sahib (RA), who first started the silsila here. His son, Hazrat Maulana Abdul Rehman Sahib (RA), further developed this silsila.
At this khanqah, the recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran has continued since Hazrat Sahib’s leadership. In the recent past (for 53 years), Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Yaqub Sahib (RA) has illuminated the hearts of people with the love and remembrance of Allah (SWT) and his Beloved Prophet (PBUH). Hazrat Sahib developed the education system according to the Quran and Sunnah, and financially contributed in the costs associated with the education of the neighbouring under-priviliged children.
His long term desire was to introduce a formal Islamic and secular education system at Baghar Shareef. Alhamdulillah, this system, called Dar-ul-uloom Yaqubiya, was introduced in March 2000, under the guidance of Hazrat Peer Sahibzadah Sajid Ur Rehman Sahib, for which credit was also due to Hazrat Sahib.
The purpose of the khanqah was to admit children who have passed 5th Class. The standards of the khanqah’s education system (for which the course duration is 5 years) has been set according to, and in conjunction with, the Rawalpindi Education Board’s Curriculum, along with Quranic recitation, Islamic studies and Arabic Grammar. After successful completion at Metric Level (12th Class), students have the option of either to further continue their study at college or embark on Islamic Studies courses at other institutes.

Alhamdulillah, the academy’s building has been constructed, and the students’ food and accommodation needs have been well catered. For each subject, Dar-ul-uloom Yaqubiya has recruited qualified and experienced teachers, and teacher numbers have increased each year to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet the demands of the system. From the perspectives of religious and secular education provided to them, May Allah (SWT) give us the strength to successfully prepare the students for their future life.
